MTI fully comprehends the magnitude of the impending danger and believes to the world is not doing enough to sustainably mitigate global warming thus influencing MTI’s launch of 40 billion trees one millions job, Kenya initiative in 2017, an ongoing initiative.
Kenya is a meagre green house (GHGs) emitter at 0.13% and while the determined 40 billion trees alone are expected to sink an estimated 2.6 billion (1%) of the global 40 billion tons of GHGs emission per annum in the intervening years, thus ranking her as a formidable global warming panacea besides attributes ranging from food and water security, jobs secures to a vibrant economy. The 40 billion trees planting in Kenya will be the most audacious for a single country globally.
The realization of this mega project will lead to increased tree cover, thus enhance the functions of normal forests, conservation of endemic biodiversity, enhance agricultural output and subsequently, reduce cases of insecurity that emanate from tension and competition for natural resources particularly water and grazing territories well into posterity and most importantly realize a prolific populace in gainful employment.
Key benefits accruing from this project are the eventual reduction of carbon footprints, it’s subsequent sale by Government, targeted communities while on farm woodlots are set to inevitably enhance overall revenue, increase water retention and discharge regulating both surface, ground and river waters volumes expected to substantively accelerate irrigation output, reduce, siltation, alluvial deposits in major river ecosystems and dams, to inevitably mitigate a myriad of recurrent challenges as being witnessed in flood prone targets of the Coast regions, Lakes Baringo, Nakuru, Turkana, Victoria, Bogoria, Naivasha, among others.
